Marguerite C Harbison
July 9, 1924 – April 10, 2021
Marguerite passed away peacefully April 10, 2021 at home.
Marguerite was born in Ashland, Wisconsin, the oldest of 5 children. She was raised in Duluth and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Duluth. As newlyweds in 1946, Marguerite and Palmer moved to Minneapolis where she worked at Minneapolis General Hospital as a Pediatric nurse during the polio epidemic. Although they returned to Duluth, they moved to Golden Valley in 1969 and joined Church of the Epiphany. To help finance three children in college, Marguerite went back to work as a registered nurse at Methodist Hospital for the next 15 years. In 1976 they built and moved to their retirement home on the Rum River. Palmer died in 1987 and after being alone for four years at the river, Marguerite moved back to Golden Valley and started another chapter in her life. She volunteered at the Eloise Butler Wild Flower Garden and NEAR, became a member of OLLI and sang with the Plymouth Rockers as well as the Epiphany choir.
Marguerite enjoyed her family, her friends, her church, flowers, bird watching, classical music, the opera, playing bridge and golf, and traveling. She had a fun sense of humor. She will be missed by Daughter Carol Harbison, Son Palmer Harbison (Denise), Her grandsons Jon Burquest, Weston Harbison and Joe Harbison. Her sisters, June Larson and Ellie Erickson and great grandchildren, nieces, great nieces, nephews and cousins, colleagues and all her friends!
A celebration of Life will be held at 1 PM on July 15, 2021 at the Church of the Epiphany, 4900 Nathan Lane, Plymouth, MN 55442 with visitation beginning at 12 PM Noon at the church.
