Margaret Susan Hentges

Our lovely mother died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 31, 2019. She was 86 years old. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Saturday, August 17 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 145 Jersey Avenue South in Golden Valley. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church. Entombment immediately following at Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum.

Margaret Susan was born on August 31, 1932 in Richmond, Minnesota. She was the second child of Nicholas and Clara (Jacobs) Schmit, and grew up on the family farm near the town of St. Nicholas. In the mid-forties her family moved to Watkins. She attended Catholic schools and graduated from St. Boniface High School in 1950. Her studies continued at St. Cloud State Teachers College where she earned her degree in education. She taught school in Glenwood for three years.

In 1955, she was united in marriage to Ronald Hentges and moved to Minneapolis. She raised three children and had an illustrious 40 year career at The Dayton-Hudson Corporation. This woman was an institution in the Children’s Department at Dayton’s in Ridgedale.

Margaret Susan was a devout Catholic who dedicated her life to helping people in need. She will be remembered for her love of fashion, gardening, and her family. She loved the beach, Perry Como, her Chevrolet Corvair, an occasional cold beer, scallops, coconut cake, golf, her rosary, Aaron Rogers, Glenwear, and the Peanut Buster Parfait at Dairy Queen. She was a German farm girl who lived fully, right up to the moment of her death. Words cannot express how much she will be missed.

Margaret is survived by her children, Jean of Golden Valley, Mark (Lisa) of Minneapolis, and Kelly Ryan (Mark) of Albertville; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Howard of Coon Rapids, and Kaye Foley (John) of Burnsville; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and, in the summer of 2015, her loving husband, Ron.

Memorials may be directed to the Franciscan Retreat House, Little Sisters of the Poor, or the Church of the Good Shepherd.
