Loraine (Hermsen) Schwinn,

6/2/1913 – 12/4/2020 (107.5 years old)

Born in Little Chute, Wisconsin on June 2, 1913 to George and Johanna Hermsen.  Loraine was the oldest of 10 children.  Loraine graduated as a registered nurse from Marquette University.  She enjoyed working as a perennial garden volunteer at the Arboretum.  She volunteered with the Girls Scouts as a leader and a camp nurse.  She was a long time member of Most Holy Trinity Church in St. Louis Park.  She truly enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, social situations and especially enjoyed winters in Florida with her sisters.  Loraine is survived by her three children Roberta Woods (Mpls), Gregory (Gwyn) Schwinn (Florida) and Barbara Schwinn (California) along with 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.  Her brother Bernard & Barbara Hermsen and sisters Rosalie Miller, Imelda Kandler and Margory Miller.  Preceded in death by husband Robert Schwinn and grandson Matthew Woods.  Brothers Gerald Hermsen, Paul Hermsen and Joseph Hermsen.  Sisters Mary VanThiel and Joan Groh.

The family thanks the staff at Sunrise of Golden Valley and Hillcrest in Wayzata for their loving care during her last few years, as well as the St. Bart’s Music Ministry at Hillcrest which Loraine enjoyed.  You held a special place in her heart.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held for family Friday, December 11 at St. Gabriel the Archangel (St. John’s Campus) at 9:30 AM.

Burial at Fort Snelling will occur in the summer of 2021.
