Leroy "Roy" W. Obermiller

Obermiller, Leroy W.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Leroy Walter Obermiller age 87 of Wayzata, MN as he was surrounded by his family on April 20th, 2018. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a generous man with a kind heart and quick smile, who cherished his family and had a special way of making everyone laugh. His quiet spirit of adventure, as well as his resilience and hard work ethic will be remembered forever. The highlight of his career was buying his own company in 1972, Plant Equipment, where his sons eventually joined him. After retiring in 1993 he could be found nearly every afternoon having coffee with his buddies in downtown Wayzata. He sailed for many years at the WYC and loved nothing more than spending summer afternoons on the lake.

Born in Avon, MN on January 18, 1931 to Edward and Juletta (Ehlert) Obermiller, Roy is survived by his loving wife Patricia of 63 years and their 4 children, Karen Rooney (Mark), David Obermiller (Terri), Gail Gangstee (Roger), Gregg Obermiller (Kim); 10 Grandchildren, Megan Rooney (Peter), Alyson Gangstee, Laura Johnson (Michael), Robert Gangstee, Sarah Obermiller, Kathryn Obermiller, Zachary Obermiller, Samantha Obermiller, John Obermiller, Daniel Obermiller; 3 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, William, and Charlotte Johnson. Roy is also survived by his brother Robert Obermiller (Marilyn), and his sister Yvonne Kremers (Al), both of St. Cloud; sister and brother-in-law Kathryn and Gary Gangstee, sons Matthew and Jake, brother-in-law Donald McArthur, and nieces and nephews.

Dad set a wonderful example of a life well lived with a can-do attitude, his jokes, laughter, love of adventures large and small, and his ability to make a friend wherever he happened to be.

Roy will be deeply missed. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Friday, April 27 at The Church of St. Bartholomew, 630 E. Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata.  Visitation at church one hour before Mass.  Int.
