Joseph Alois Lampe

Joseph Alois Lampe, 82, of Brooklyn Center, passed away peacefully July 21, 2024.

Joe struggled for two years with untreatable amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Preceded in death by parents, Alois and Margaret Lampe; brother, Mike; and nephew, Greg. Survived by wife Ernee McArthur; siblings, Jim Lampe, Kay (Larry) Craighead, Mary (Steve) Hearne and David (Charlotte) Lampe; stepchildren, Neil McArthur (Doreen) and Amy Reilly (Jim); and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was especially thankful to his sisters and to friends Dave Johnson and Dave and Connie Kassing for their major assistance during his decline from ALS and his many moves over the last year.

Always adventuresome and curious, Joe served four years in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command Project 465L, and worked in audio, radio and computer engineering, the construction trades, HVAC installation and servicing, non-profit management, community organizing, political campaigns, the family real estate business, and Personal Rapid Transit technology. His wife Ernee said he could fix anything.

His many activities included extensive wilderness hiking and mountaineering, fishing and hunting with his father, gardening, photography, the Eastern Bluebird Recovery Program, political campaigns, legislative lobbying and much community and family volunteering. Long time active member of Most Holy Trinity and Our Lady of Victory Catholic churches.

A bachelor until age 53, Joe married widow Ernee McArthur after a whirlwind six month courtship in 1995. She was the non-stop project generator and he organized the implementation. As her health declined in recent years he became her primary caregiver.
