Joseph Alfred Ladner, age 86, of Plymouth passed away December 4, 2022. Joe was born on March 10, 1936 to Josephine and Alfred Ladner in Granite Falls Minnesota. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Gwen and his children: Sarah Maris (Jerry), Katherine Ladner, Molly (Brian) Hohrein, and grandchildren – Michael, Jack, Andrew, and Peter Maris, Anne and Nathan Guttridge, Madelyne and Sophia Hohrein. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Ladner, and his sister, Mary Ulm.
Joe graduated from Granite Falls High School, attended St. John’s University and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Northern States Power Company his entire career.
Gwen and Joe met at the U of M and lived in Minneapolis, Montevideo, and St. Cloud before returning to the Minneapolis area where they lived in Deephaven for 46 years. They moved to Trillium Woods senior living community in Plymouth in 2015.
Joe loved the outdoors and was very active throughout his life with canoeing, swimming, sailing, biking, hiking, skiing, and more recently playing pickleball.
He was also a very good handyman (skills he learned while growing up in his parent’s hardware store) , and developed woodworking skills as the years went by. Joe was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching and attending football, baseball, track, and basketball games.
Joe will be remembered for his amazing energy, his dedication to friends and family, and his devotion to all forms of dessert, especially pie.
Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 13th at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, 155 Cty. Rd. 24 Medina.
Private inurnment Resurrection Cemetery, Shoreview.
Visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
