Joseph (Joe) P. Franzen, age 79 of Plymouth, passed away at his daughter’s home in California on Saturday, November 27 th , 2021. Joe is survived by his children, Mark (Alison) Franzen, Michelle (Matt) Mead, and Charlene Franzen; grandchildren, Evan, Aidan, Zach, and Paige; and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo; son, Michael J. Franzen; and siblings, Jerome Franzen, Rose Franzen, and Kathleen Franzen-Taylor.
Joe could always be counted on by friends and family to help out with projects, chores, and coordinating/hanging Christmas lights in the neighborhood. He was known for making Yuma Lane being known as “Pretty Yuma” in Cimarron Ponds during Christmas. His children often joked that he was a “know it all”, in fact his son Mark wrote a “Joe knows all” poem for his 45 th birthday, to highlight all the things dad/Joe thought he knew. But in all seriousness, he was one of the greatest dads any child could ask for; and he will be greatly missed.
Joe was kindhearted, and was always there when he was needed, whether it was for his family, St. Barts Church, or a neighbor/friend in need. He had a great sense of humor, sometimes it was only funny to him, but always said, “sometimes you have to make your own humor and laugh at yourself”.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 29 th at the Church of St. Bartholomew, 630 E. Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata. Visitation at church from 9:30-11:00 AM with a small luncheon at the church afterward.
Private interment at Gethsemane Cemetery at a future date.
