Jon K. Heidinger

Jon K. Heidinger

died peacefully on March 18, 2020 after a brave and determined effort to overcome cancer. He was born December 14, 1943 in Clinton, Iowa. His family moved to Minneapolis where he graduated from Edina High School in 1962 and the University of MN in 1967. Jon loved his family. He married his spouse of 52 years, Janet and raised two children, a daughter, Britt (Ben Melby) and son, David (Partner Samantha). He is the beloved grandfather of Isla and Harris Melby. Jon is also survived by sister, Carol (William) Beadie; brother, Guy (Donna Jean); sister-in-law, Donna Kay; 1 niece and 6 nephews.  He was preceded in death by father, Harry; mother, Ruth; brother, Karl and nephew, Shawn.

Jon is remembered as a fun loving man with a quick wit, a hearty sense of humor, a bountiful memory for facts, faces, names and places, which he learned quickly and remembered well. He was a great cook and prepared a properly set table, always with candlelight during the winter months. He is beloved for his optimism, creativity and invincible nature, which he used strategically in the world of business. Jon was a founding board member of Hearts and Hands Minnesota, a non profit dedicated to providing support to families who are facing the life threatening illness of a child.

Jon appreciated the beauty of nature as he played golf, hunted and fished with family and friends, often recalling the Black Capped Chickadee that landed on the bill of his cap as he remained still in a deer stand. He also appreciated fine Scotch and fine cars. He was an avid reader, especially of crime thrillers. He started most days by doing the daily crossword puzzles. Jon is deeply loved and will be missed by friends and family.
