John Wieder

John Henry Wieder, III, 63, of St. Paul, MN, died suddenly Aug. 18, 2017, at HCMC hospital in Mpls, MN, from cancer complications. John was born 5/23/54 in St. Louis, MO., the only child of Virginia Wimmer and John Wieder (both deceased). He served St. Louis professionally as a teacher, drama coach, paramedic supervisor, and physicians assistant. Native American spirituality shaped his life and scouting was his passion, having achieved Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow, and scoutmaster extraordinaire. He graduated with a Masters in Counseling from St. Louis U., and pursued PhD studies at the U. of MN. He met his life partner, Julie Bates, at the U. of MN Newman Center, a community in which he was deeply active. John was generous and resilient. He was a cook, scotch drinker, rock climber, friend, mentor, problem solver, builder, animal and nature lover, and became a Democrat later in life. John is survived by Julie Bates and her family, many friends in Missouri, Minnesota, and states inbetween.  John's funeral service is Thursday, August 31, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 1500 Franklin Ave. SE, Mpls.  Visitation at 5 pm and liturgy at 6 pm. Donations to the family for future distribution to John's passions and causes.
