of Plymouth, Minnesota passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at age 80. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
John is survived by his wife Jeanne Starr (née Halucka); children Liz Starr, Jack Starr, Cara Starr, and Heather Collen; grandchildren Ivan Baune and Otto Baune; and brothers Tom (Gail) Starr, Rick (Sue) Starr, Bill Starr, and Jim (Barb) Starr.
John was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Sally Starr; sister Sal Starr; and son-in-law Tony Collen.
John was educated at Mendel Catholic High School in Chicago, Purdue University, and Michigan State University, completing a Masters in Engineering Mechanics. He began work in Pennsylvania at Westinghouse Advanced Reactors Division where he met his wife Jeanne, and together they had four children.
The family settled in Minnesota, where John developed a consulting career dedicated to furthering the understanding of advanced electronics vibration reliability.
John was captain of his wrestling team in high school and in keeping active enjoyed a lifetime of racquetball with friends.
Family life was filled with puppies, farming, boating, fishing, camping and more. His love for family was shown by making sure everyone always had plenty to eat and drink and was well taken care of. Grandfather to Ivan and Otto, Grandpa would prepare a math or science question when they would visit. They loved it!
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 2-4 PM at Gearty-Delmore Plymouth Chapel, 15800 37th Ave N.
A Mass of Christian Burial and Interment will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11 am at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 155 County Rd 24, Wayzata.
In lieu of flowers or memorial trees, the family asks that donations be made in John's name to Sharing and Caring Hands or Parkinson's Foundation.
