John was born in St. Paul, MN in 1960 to Nancy and Thomas Poeschl Sr. John passed away on January 3, 2021, at the age of 61, after tenaciously battling illness for several weeks. John was a loving son, loyal brother, caring husband, and amazing father. He will be remembered most for putting faith and family first, his good heart, as well as his creative sense of humor and consistent work ethic, both at work and as a father.
John was also a pious spiritual leader for his family. He consistently attended daily masses with his wife whenever possible, and always maintained a tradition of familial nighttime prayers. John was also very Pro-Life, and followed a pattern of saying rosarys every Saturday outside an abortion clinic for that cause.
John viewed his role as a husband and father as his first and foremost responsibility as a person, other than God. He did everything in his power to deliver a connected, Catholic family environment and made many sacrifices to ensure his children were able to attend Catholic schools. He always sought to be firm, but fair in judgment and never placed work over time with his wife, children, family, and friends. With his family, he visited his parents every Sunday where he enjoyed time with his siblings and their children and spouses, lunch, and watching sports.
John had a passion for family road trips. He loved exploring the outdoors with family and friends, and camping when possible. He also enjoyed Seinfeld and The Office, along with the Lord of the Rings and It’s a Wonderful Life movies.
He was an avid sports fan and he most supported the Gophers, the Twins, and the Vikings, in the good times and the bad. John was also an accomplished athlete, having played basketball, baseball, and football. Lastly, he was a committed coach, having coached softball and football.
After obtaining a Master’s degree at St. Thomas College, John worked as a successful teacher for over 30 years & always hoped to have a positive influence on young people with his jolly and unique style.
He was preceded in death by his dear mother Nancy, brother Thomas Jr., and nephew Patric Vitek, and survived by his loving family: wife Andrea Poeschl, sons Nick and Ryan, daughter Samantha, father Thomas Sr. of Cottage Grove, sister Lisa Welter of St. Paul Park, siblings-in-law Robert Welter, Debra Lindholm, Joe Lynch, Karen Park, Cheryl Vitek, Ray Lynch, and 13 nieces and nephews.
