John T. O’Malley, age 88, of Golden Valley, Plymouth and Edina passed away peacefully on April 1st, surrounded by a choir of his children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife Patti (Herbert); parents Thomas and Bernadette; sisters Rose Krattenmaker and Kathleen Anderson. Survived by wife Pat Thompson; children Tom (Mary), Laura (Larry) Pietras, Kathryn (John Richardson), Joe (Tammy Wells), Rob (Jan Cassidy, Jessika, Maddie, Luke, Ciara), Chris (Jenny Fortman) and David; grandchildren, Dan, Tim, Alyssa, Tina, Katelyn (George), Lauren, Steven, Zed, Pelly, Maureen, Aerin and Róisín; great grandchild Ella; dear sister, Sr. Colleen O’Malley, C.S.J. and many close relatives and life-long friends. John was a man of great dignity, loyalty and faith. A proud veteran of the Navy, he served in Korea as a Radioman on board the escort carrier USS Rendova. Graduate of St. Thomas University and DeLaSalle High School, he proudly supported his family in his long career as CFO for Dayton Rogers Manufacturing Company. John was an active member of several parishes in his life. He raised his family at Saint Margaret Mary’s. He enjoyed many activities with friends and family, but particularly loved his time on the golf course. He was a devoted son. As oldest and only brother, he held his sisters in the highest regard. As husband, the comfort and happiness of his wife was his vocation. As father, he was provider, moral example and enthusiastic fan.
Truly, The Leader of the Band. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Parkinson’s charities.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday , April 7th at Church of Ascension, 1723 Bryant Avenue North, Minneapolis ; 9 -11 am v isitation, 11 am Mass, Luncheon to follow.
