John "Jack" Fischer

John N. "Jack" Fischer, age 80, formerly of Sun City West, AZ passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2017.

Jack was born on February 6, 1937 in Avon, MN.  He grew up on a farm on Middle Spunk Lake in Avon, MN.  He went to grade school in Avon, and high school in St. Cloud.  In 1955 he enlisted in the United States Navy.  He played baseball for the Navy Tars, and he was signed with the San Francisco Giants.  He played baseball until his ankle was crushed which ended his baseball career.

Shortly after, he met his wife Betty and they were married for 57 years.  Jack worked for Burlington Northern Railroad until he retired after 30 years.  After retirement, Jack and Betty spent 18 years in Arizona enjoying the weather and golfing, and not to mention, he worked part-time at a golf course until he was 79 years old.  Most importantly, Jack loved spending time with his family.

Jack had an infectious smile and a zest for life.  He spread joy wherever he went.  He was a very kind and loving man.  He was a hard worker who took extreme pride in his work and duties.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Florine and Frank Fischer; and brother, Warren.  He is survived by wife of 57 years, Elizabeth "Betty"; daughters, Cathy (Peter) Stork and Cynthia "Cyndi" Fischer; grandchildren, Lauren (Scott) Airey, Tanner and Trey Stork; brother, Paul (Mary Jane) Fischer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 14, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the church of St. Gerard, 9600 Regent Avenue North, Brooklyn Park, with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m.  After mass, there will be a luncheon at the church hall.  An escorted procession to Ft. Snelling National Cemetery will follow.

Memorials preferred to Poor Clares Monastery, 421 4th Street South, Sauk Rapids, MN  56379.
