John L. Erickson

John LeRoy Erickson, age 87, died October 15, 2021, following a recent diagnosis of metastatic colon cancer under hospice care at Arbor Lakes Senior Living, Maple Grove.

John was born November 13, 1933 in Baxter. He graduated from Washington High School; Brainerd Junior College; University of MN (BBA & MBA); and Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He served as a US Army interpreter in the Korean War after studying at the Defense Language Institute.

John started his career in cost accounting at Honeywell and worked 27 years at US Bank finishing there as a senior vice president. He was also CFO of Good Samaritan Supply and an investment banker at Milestone Growth Fund. Until fall 2021, he was consulting CFO at Health Account Data.

John wed his high school sweetheart, Joyce Mustonen, on December 26, 1954. Throughout 66 years of marriage they made homes in California, Massachusetts, Minneapolis, New Hope, and Plymouth. He lovingly cared for Joyce when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s until she preceded him in death in April 2021. Also predeceased by parents, Arthur and Elsie Erickson.

John lived with integrity and grace. He will be remembered for his warm, curious, engaging personality; sense of humor; faith; and the love he shared with his family and friends. He was a 45-year member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and longtime participant and co-leader of the Men’s Bible Class. He also enjoyed Bible Study Fellowship and Bible Study at Arbor Lakes Senior Living.

Survived by children Tom (Diane) Erickson and Jane (Steve) Pittman; grandchildren Lauren (Christian), Hannah (Reid), Chris (Brooke), Merritt, and Rachel; great-grandchildren Nora and Fredrik; brother Bill (Peggy) Erickson; nieces, nephews, and friends.

A private service in celebration of his life will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Plymouth. Memorials to the church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church's you tube page
