Joel (Butch) Onstad was born in Crookston, MN on October 22, 1934 and grew up in McIntosh, MN. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1951-1955 with a tour of duty in Okinawa. He graduated from Mpls Business College in 1958 where he met his wife, Donna. Joe and Donna where married in 1960. Together they opened Robin TV in 1964 and operated it until its close in 2007.
Joe loved country music, golf, hunting, playing cards, traveling, classic cars and watching westerns, military and history on TV.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna; son, Randall (Diane) Onstad of Buffalo; daughters, Joni (Steve) Depies of Maple Grove, Kathryn (Joe) Clayton of Albertville and Cheryl (Jeff) Hanson of Coon Rapids; grandchildren, Jessica (Rich) Hinnenkamp, Jelena Neumann, Amanda (Clint) Nelson and Joey Clayton; great granddaughters, Katelyn & Hannah Hinnenkamp and Paisley Nelson; brothers, Don Onstad, Randolph (Marion) Onstad; sisters, Audrey Knight, Sylvia Mourning, Karen Nielsen; many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, S.P.& Deloris Onstad; brothers, Delvin and Russell; sister, Joyce Moen; sisters-in-law, Laverne Onstad, Lolly Onstad and Jean Onstad.
Joe will be sadly missed by all of us.
Interment with Honors 11:30 Monday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Assembly area #2, 7601 34th Ave. S., Mpls, MN 55450.
