JoAnn Frances (Nee Micke) O'Brien, 79 years old – passed away peacefully on November 9, 2021 at St. Therese Home in New Hope, MN. She was born in Cloquet, MN, and after high school worked at the Weyerhauser Co. for a few years before moving to Malibu, CA. In 1970, she returned to Minneapolis where she went to work for National Car Rental, and met her future husband, Charles (Chuck) O’Brien. They had two sons, Jeffrey and Scott. After taking a break from her career, to become a stay-at-home mom, she returned to the work force where her employers included Dayton’s and Prudential. She retired in 2001. She loved traveling and made several trips throughout the U.S. (including Hawaii) with overseas trips to several European countries plus China and Italy. Due to declining health, she had to curtail her travels in her later years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, watching sports on TV (especially the MN Twins), playing cards, board games, and working crossword puzzles. Working puzzles was something she learned from her father at a very young age, and she was very good at it. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Chuck, her sons Jeffrey (Jennifer) and Scott (Kari), grandchildren Thomas, Maria, and Joseph. She is also survived by her brother Ted Micke (Irene), sister Sr. Pauline Micke, OSB, brother-in-law, Clayton Beck, and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Church in Plymouth where she volunteered as needed, taught religious education classes to grade school children, and serviced on the funeral luncheon committee for several years. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Tuesday, November 16, at the Church of St. Mary of the Lake, 105 N. Forestview Lane in Plymouth, MN with visitation one hour before Mass.
