Simcoe, Jerome "Jerry" Charles age 87, of Brooklyn Park, MN passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 23, 2020. Jerry was born on February 2, 1933 in Minneapolis to Charles and Anna (Buck) Simcoe. He married Alverda Rose Loga on August 22, 1959 in Minneapolis, MN.
Jerry served in the U.S. Army with the 4 th Armored Division of Camp Chaffe, AR. He spent his professional career working in the trucking and warehouse management industry for multiple companies including Gamble Robinson, Target, and International Multifoods. He recently retired as financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus Crystal Council. Active 55-year member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Wm. Blum Council 3656 and a 4 th Degree Knight. Proud 39-year member of the Mpls. Knights of Columbus Male Chorus and served 20-years as their manager.
Jerry enjoyed tennis, skiing, swimming, fishing, polka music, retreating to their lake home, vacationing in Mexico and Arizona, gardening, making sauerkraut and pierogi, and was the ultimate handyman for family and friends.
Survived by loving wife of 60 years, Alverda Simcoe. Children: Cheryl Ann (James) Patrick, and Daniel Charles (Colleen) Simcoe. Grandchildren: Alicia Ann (Kenny) Rohlf, Erin Elizabeth O’Brien, and Tyrone Charles (Lindsey) Simcoe and great-grandchildren Avery Ann Rohlf and Vincent Charles Simcoe. Siblings: Dorothy Briant and Mary (Hoff) Heiberg. Sisters-in law: Joanne (Ralph) Miller, Linda Dahl, Beverly Waldera, Rachel (Ronald) Sosalla, Lois (Jim) Kulig, Kathy Loga and LaVonne Loga. Brothers-in-law: Donald (Judy) Loga, Gerald (Marie) Loga, Steve Loga, David (Brenda) Loga, Donald Koxlien and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by in-laws, Inez Koxlien, Robert Dahl, Mike Waldera, Arlin Loga, Merlyn Loga and Phil Briant.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, located at 7025 Halifax Ave N, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429. Visitation will take place from 9:30am – 11:00am. Due to current social restraints and church limited seating of 120 people, St. Alphonsus will also live stream the Mass on their home Facebook page. In addition, a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a future date.
Jerry’s final resting place will be Fort Snelling National Cemetery, St. Paul, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to American Cancer Society, St. Alphonsus Parish or donor’s choice.
Visitation an hour and a half prior to Mass.
