Jeremiah Michael Murphy, 86, of Edina, MN passed away peacefully on February 19, 2022. He was preceded in death by wife, Kay Murphy
Jerry is survived by his children, Pat, Tom (Tracy), Kevin, Brian, Dan (Lisa), Brigid (Dennis Winkelman), Kate Boland (Tom), his in-laws Patrick and MaryKay Murray, Martha Urbasic (Herm) and Jane Marrin. Additionally, he is survived by his seventeen grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.
Born July 27, 1935 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Donald and Catherine (O’Gara) Murphy, and brother Donald Murphy. His family attended Assumption Church, where his deep Catholic faith was instilled. He graduated from De La Salle High School (1953) and St. Thomas College (1957). Where he developed lifelong friendships.
At a New Year’s Eve party in 1956, he met the love of his life F. Catherine (Kay) Murray and they were married in August 1958. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Jerry worked for Red Owl early in his career and upon the arrival of his second child, he started a manufacturing representation company, Murphy and Associates, where he remained until his retirement. Jerry loved meeting new people and building strong relationships. It didn’t matter if you were a business associate, client, friend or one of the family. Nothing illuminates this more than the legendary parties Jerry and Kay loved to throw. The annual Murphy and Associates Christmas Party was only ever topped by the Murphy Invitational Golf tournament where friends and family gathered yearly for mostaccioli from Cafe DiNapoli, friendly golf and prizes for all!
Nothing was more important to Jerry than family. That especially included his expansive extended family with many in-laws, nieces and nephews that Jerry often thought of as his own children. It was always a highlight of any family wedding when Jerry would get to the microphone to give his toast.
Jerry seldom missed an opportunity to attend one of his kids sporting events. You could always hear Jerry rooting and screaming during the games, as could the various officials who sometimes asked him to root from his car. Jerry’s love for golf was never more evident than in the fact that over his lifetime he was able to get 2 holes one. Yes miracles do happen.
Jeremiah's family would like to thank Kindred Care Hospice for the loving care they provided him over these last months.
