Age 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 2, 2019. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Allen; parents, Edward and Anna; brother, Robert. Loving mother of daughters, Catherine (Jon), Mary (Mark) and Diana (Tom). Survived by sisters, JoAnn and Donna; sister-in-law, Joan; nieces and nephews. Special friend, Kathy Moran. Special thanks to aides Rand and Darlee.
Jean was born October 16, 1935 in Maple Grove, MN. She attended a one-room schoolhouse Hennessey Hill where she skipped a grade, graduated salutatorian at age 16 from Robbinsdale HS class of 1952, and was awarded a 4-year scholarship to St. Catherine University. With a genius IQ, Jean was known for her intellect and prowess with numbers and details. Friends and family sought her advice during tax season, having prepared yearly income taxes for others since age 15. She worked as the only female auditor among 11 male auditors at Northern Ordnance US Navy Audit Office, and was one of two people authorized for top-secret clearance, but was the only person authorized to secure the safe each night.
Jean and husband Allen ‘Pip’ Lund were married on September 7, 1957. That same year, they built their Maple Grove home overlooking what is now Lake Edward. In addition to raising three daughters, Jean and Allen owned and operated a masonry business for 35 years, sold Open Road RVs and Wilderness campers, as well as utility trailers that Allen custom built during their retirement. They worked as a team, and Jean would say, “Allen did the blue-collar work, and I did the white-collar work." They cherished many fun times together playing 500, old-time dancing, and relaxing on the patio.
Jean’s passions were her faith, her husband, her daughters, and the MN Twins. She loved animals and had a close bond with Cathy’s dog, Cesar. She proudly embraced her 100% German heritage, being a life-long resident of the land homesteaded and pioneered by her father's family, that her father was the namesake of Lake Edward, and that her uncle Carl was the namesake of Schmidt Lake/Road.
Thank you, Mom, for the sacrifices you made and for the knowledge that you shared to help us become the women that we are. We miss you and will be forever grateful for your devotion.
