Janet A. Porten
Janet Ann Porten, age 82 of Champlin, MN went home to be with the Lord on August 5, 2021. Janet was born August 11, 1938 in Robbinsdale and graduated from Robbinsdale High School. She received her degree in education from the University of Minnesota and enjoyed a very long career in teaching, primarily throughout the Robbinsdale area public school system. She inspired scores of children to develop a love of learning and strive to be their best. Once retired, Janet was totally engaged in the world around her, both close and afar, taking every opportunity to travel with family and friends. She also dedicated herself to her church community, especially through music. She stayed closely connected to her family and her wonderful network of friends through regular gatherings, book clubs, and hours around the table playing cards and games.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Horace; parents, Thomas and Gladys Shaw; sister, Joan Manning; brother-in-law, John Manning; brother, Thomas Shaw, Jr; and sister-in-law, Sherry Shaw. She is survived by her niece, Denise (Craig) Enright, nephews, Robert and Neil (Jennifer) Shaw; grandnieces, McKenna, Megan and Olivia Shaw and grandnephews, Charlie and Sam Enright and Max Shaw. Janet’s family also extends to her many, many close friends.
Memorial service 11 AM Saturday, Aug 21st with visitation beginning at 10 AM at Elim Lutheran Church, 3978 West Broadway, Robbinsdale. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorials preferred to Elim Lutheran Church.
