Janet Ann Dyste

Janet Ann (Kelly) Dyste, 92, beloved child of God, died Thursday, May 13, 2021 surrounded by
her family at her home at Summerwood of Plymouth.

Jan was born on February 27,1929 in Minneapolis to Olaf and Blanche (Husby) Kelly. She
graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947 and St. Olaf College in 1951 with a degree in
social work. While at St Olaf Jan met Paul N. Dyste. The two were married on November 18,
1951 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Mpls. To this union three children were born.

Jan and Paul spent their early years living in Virginia, New York and Minneapolis. They moved
to Minnetonka in 1960 where they raised their three children Mike, Gregg and Mary. Jan
worked as a social worker at the Glen Lake Home School for Boys in the 70’s, was a cub
scout, boy scout and girl scout leader for her kids. Paul and Jan joined All Saints Lutheran
Church in Minnetonka where they were both active leaders in many areas.

In 1990 Paul and Jan realized their dream of owning a lake home and moved to Crosby, MN
where they lived for 15 years on Serpent Lake. Together they rebuilt their home and loved
sharing it with family and friends. As family it was important to reserve a spot early on their
summer calendar as it was bound to fill up with friends from near and far. All the grandkids
have wonderful memories of times spent around the fire, on the lake and playing games with
Grandma and Grandpa.

Jan will be remembered most as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a friend to many, an
avid gardener, an extraordinary seamstress and as one who rarely got her feathers ruffled. Jan
was proud of her Norwegian heritage often reciting the Norwegian table prayer and teaching
her granddaughters to make lefse. One of Jan’s most redeeming qualities was her ability to
nurture friendships. She had dear friends from as far back as early childhood, high school and
college that still gathered several times per year. Jan loved to sew and her talent was
impressive. Clothing, quilts, curtains…there was little she wouldn’t tackle including her
beautiful wedding dress. Her loss will be deeply felt.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 2011, and parents, siblings Robert,
Virginia Smith and John. She is survived by her children Michael (Laura) and their children Alex
Demet (Chris) and Hannah (Connor); Gregg (Cynthia) and their children Brett (Leslie) and Emily
Jaeger (Ryan); Mary Burgmeier (Dan) and their children Kyle (Aly), Lauren Woods (Cameron),
Andrew (Korrie) and Joseph; and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Wed., June 16th at 10:30am at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Home at
15800 37th Ave N, Plymouth, MN with visitation one half hour prior to the service. The service
will be live streamed and can be accessed through Jan’s obituary found on the Gearty-Delmore
