Jamie Ebnet, 49, passed away on Dec. 27, 2021, from an unexpected heart attack with his wife by his side. Although taken away from us far too soon, his loving heart will remain a guiding light for his family and friends.
Jamie was born Oct. 31, 1972 to Linus and Julie Ebnet in Albany, MN, and had three siblings, Jody, Jonathan, and Janel. His childhood was shaped by the outdoors, including a family vacation to Thunder Bay and playing in the woods near his home. This inspired his love of nature, visiting national parks, gardening, and camping with his family.
Jamie played basketball for Holdingford High School (class of 1991). His nickname on the team was “Jammers,” which his sister always called him, much to his dismay. In his senior year, Jamie scored the game-winning shot in the team’s only win of the year, and the coach’s 300 th -career win. He couldn’t stop smiling after, and those who knew him will never forget his infectious smile.
After graduating from high school, Jamie attended the University of MN Morris (class of 1995). He worked at Prudential Financial out of college and has been with UnitedHealth Group since 2003 as a senior financial underwriter. Jamie’s financial savvy and investing skills likely started with his first “job” — earning money crushing pop cans in the basement of his dad’s bar with his siblings.
Jamie met the love of his life, Mai, in 2008. They had an instant connection and married in a private ceremony in Hawaii that same year. Together they had two wonderful daughters, Lillian and Linnea. Being their father was the honor of his life. Ever the family man, Jamie loved spending time with his girls and participating in all their activities, from music lessons to soccer tournaments and swim meets. He was so proud of their many accomplishments. Jamie loved going on walks, hikes, bike rides, and summer camping trips with his family.
Jamie loved to travel and try new foods. He once took an epic North Carolina BBQ trail trip and had an opportunity to visit several famous BBQ joints in Texas. He had a goal to visit all 50 states, and his daughters will carry him in their hearts when they see the last three. Jamie, Mai, and the girls spent the summer of 2021 traveling to Colorado for music camp and hiking through several national parks. They also took a trip to Montana with the entire Ebnet family. It was the first time the whole family traveled together and will be a cherished memory for all.
Jamie will be deeply missed by those who survive him: his wife of 13 years, Mai; parents, Linus and Julie Ebnet of Holdingford, MN; brothers, Jonathan (Heather) and Jody; sister, Janel; sisters-in-law, Kim Thu (Tomas) and Tina (Scott); brothers-in-law, Tony (Julia), Jet, and Thanh (Franki); nephews, AJ, Oskar, Lukas, Matthias, and Brandon; and nieces, Drew, Mimi, and Sophia. He was the proud father of two talented daughters, Lillian (10) and Linnea (7), who inherited his practicality and wit and will be his greatest legacies.
A celebration of Jamie’s life will be held at 2 pm and memorial service at 3 pm on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a GoFundMe account set up on behalf of Mai and the girls:
