Goering, James (Jim) Michael

Age 101, of New Hope, formerly of Crystal, passed away May 10, 2023, after a long and faith-filled life.

The oldest of 12 children, Jim was born in Quamba, MN and raised in Brandon, MN.  Shortly before heading to war, Jim met the love of his life Virginia Fiala.  They were wed in 1947 and were married for more than 75 years.

Jim served in the Army in WWII for more than five years in the European area.  During his service, he was honored for heroism by disarming a fellow serviceman who was drunk and had fired a shot in the direction of other personnel.

He provided 30 years of dedicated service for NSP as a tree trimmer and supervisor.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and a devout Catholic.  He loved gardening, maintaining a meticulous lawn, fishing and enjoyed many trips to Mexico and other destinations.  Jim was active in his church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, VFW and the IBEW union.

Jim is survived by Virginia, devoted daughter Kathleen (David) Freed, grandchildren Aaron (Jeanne) Freed, Joseph (Leanne) Freed, Rachel (Luke) Heinzen, great-grandchildren Simon and Mary and siblings Edward (Kay), Daniel (Cleo), Christella (Dennis) Korkowski and Rebecca (Wayne) Chouanard.

Mass of Christian Burial Thursday (5/18), 10:30 AM with Rosary starting at 9 AM and visitation from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 4087 W. Broadway, Robbinsdale.  Interment Gethsemane Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sacred Heart Church, EWTN, or the Crystal VFW.
