James R. Tynen
age 92, died peacefully on June 16, 2019 (Father’s Day), surrounded by his loving family. This gracious gentleman was a WWII Navy veteran from Chisholm, MN, He graduated from the University of Minnesota as an Industrial Engineer and spent his 37-year career at Honeywell. Jim was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, a 64-year member of St. Raphael, an impassioned member of the St. Raphael and Knights of Columbus choirs, and a 60- year member of the 40 & 8. He will be remembered for his quick wit, unwavering faith, devotion to family, enduring friendships, and for his “quiet” strength… except when he was singing.
Preceded in death by his parents Otto and Bertha Tynen and by his one and only girlfriend, Eileen whom he will be serenading in heaven on June 18th, in celebration of their 70th wedding anniversary. Left to carry on his musical legacy: Children Jan (Jake), Kathy (Jeff), Jim (Jo), Gerry (Nicole), Pat (Jean), Mary Beth; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren (and one on the way); 3 great-great grandchildren; numerous special nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 21, at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Crystal, MN. Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 pm (Prayer service 6:30) Thursday, June 20, at Gearty-Delmore Robbinsdale Chapel, 3888 W. Broadway and one hour prior to the mass Friday at the church. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope, MN.
