Stumpfa Jr., James E.
Age 102, born in NE Minneapolis, passed away peacefully on Dec.14, 2024. A man of unwavering faith, integrity & kindness, Jim led a life marked by devotion to family, service to his country & a passion for learning.
He graduated from Edison High School & proudly served during World War II as an electrician’s mate in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USS Bangor. It was during this time that he met Grace, a Navy servicewoman. Together, they built a long marriage filled with love, partnership & joy, raising five children.
After the war, Jim earned a degree in political science from the University of Minnesota. He went on to operate North Side Electric for over 60 years. Jim performed with Brooklyn & Robbinsdale Community bands, as well as many dance bands. Jim & Grace shared a love of ballroom dancing, family road trips, visiting state capitols & family gatherings.
Jim was preceded in death by wife, Grace Stumpfa; parents, Hilma (Hendrickson) Stumpfa & James Elmer Stumpfa, Sr.; siblings, Helen Williams, Mary Huber & Arthur Ervin & longtime partner, Dee Anderson.
He is survived by children, Louise Jensen, Peggy Stumpfa, Kurt Stumpfa, Carol Jensen & Karl Stumpfa; grandchildren, Martha Malinski (Scott Shoemaker), Alyssa Malinski Erickson (Steve Erickson) & Kevin Stumpfa; great-grandchildren, Malin, Henrik, Hazel & Ruby; and many beloved nieces & nephews.
Jim’s body was donated to the U of M Anatomy Bequest Program, reflecting his lifelong generosity & dedication to helping others. Memorial Service will be held at Minnetonka United Methodist 17611 Lake Street Extension Minnetonka, on Friday, January 3. Visitation at 10 am with service at 11 am.
