James Richard Spevacek

Jim Spevacek, beloved husband of Joanne Spevacek for 67 years, and father of five, grandfather to 12, passed away at the age of 91.

He was born in the rural community of Hector, MN. He later moved to Minneapolis and graduated from De La Salle high school. Jim was then drafted and served in the armed forces in Germany during the Korean War. After discharge he attended the University of MN and graduated in 1957. He then started working at First Bank (later to become US bank) as an appraiser in the Real Estate department. He married Joanne that same year. Jim worked at US bank his entire career before retiring in 1995.

During his retirement he and Joanne were fortunate to be able to travel to many European countries including the towns from where their ancestors came. He spent much of his time in retirement volunteering. He helped tutor ESL students and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

He was an avid swimmer, swimming 2-3 days a week until this past April. Jim also enjoyed gardening and was always able to produce picture perfect fruits and vegetables even when weather conditions weren’t right. He served on the finance committee at St. Joseph’s Parish New Hope. He was actively involved in the church, serving as Eucharistic minister and volunteering in many ways.

His family was his greatest pride, and his love for them was boundless. Ever quick to smile and always radiating positivity, he uplifted those around him with his warmth and light. His legacy of love, resilience, and happiness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Survived by beloved wife of 67 years, Joanne; children, John (Liana), Mark (Betsy) Paul, Philip (Kathy) & Annette (Ryan); grandchildren, Eric, David, Kevin, Steven, Kelly, Aly, Laney, Alec, Evan, Grace, Joseph & Thomas; nieces & many loved ones & friends.
