James E Skeie, 82, of Corcoran, passed away suddenly in his home on November 26, 2024.
Jim worked as a Service Manager for Chrysler in Buffalo, MN, ending his career at Golden Valley Tire. He retired in 2007 and stayed home to take care of his youngest Grandchild (Emma) until she started school.
Born in San Diego, California on October 21, 1942, he grew up in New London, MN. He joined the US Navy in 1960 and became a Field Medic in 1961. He also worked at UCLA Medical Center for a short time while living in California. He married Martha Skeie in June of 1969 and later that year, their son Jason was born.
While he and Martha were still working, they often had double dates with son Jason and his wife Jerene, usually dinner and a concert and then regular family dinners at home. They enjoyed traveling together, especially in their RV after retirement. During summer trips, they took their grandchildren with them, at all ages, most of the time they went on 2 week trips out west. When Granddaughter Lindsay got straight A’s in high school, they invited her with them on their trip to Hawaii as a reward. He and Martha took the grandchildren on many trips to Florida and they enjoyed all the park rides right along with the kids, even the scary roller coasters. A few times, they even let Jason and Jerene tag along to Florida and to the Black Hills. Granddaughter Sadie lived with Jim and Martha for several years during and after college and then after Martha’s passing earlier this year, Grandson Connor moved in with Jim as well. He enjoyed taking care of them and they helped around the house and with some of his appointments. Granddaughter Emma had regular movie days, lunch dates and trips to the cemetery with Grandpa. Jim truly enjoyed his grandchildren and was fully involved in their lives, from birth to adulthood. He will be remembered by relatives, friends and neighbors for his dry sense of humor. Everyone has at least one memorable, amusing anecdote or prank of Jim’s to repeat whenever speaking of him.
He is survived by son, Jason (Jerene); grandchildren, Lindsay, Connor, Sadie and Emma and his faithful dog Max. Preceded in death by his wife Martha Skeie and parents, Elmo and Marjorie Skeie.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday December 11, 2024 at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, 155 Cty Rd 24, Medina, with visitation one hour prior to Mass.
