James J. Reger, PhD

( Aug 01, 1953 - May 01, 2015 ) Minneapolis Age 61, passed away May 1, 2015 after a courageous fight against neuro-endocrine cancer. Survived by sons Burke and Shea; daughter Mercedes; parents Al and Billie; sister Kathy; brothers John, Jerry and Kevin; sister-in-law Jennifer; nieces Kelly and Shaylynn; nephew Ryne. Jim was a pioneering scientist and recognized leader in the field of Human Factors, combining engineering, psychology, design and computers. He played a key role in creating world standards in HD technology and worked with international companies including Emerson, Dell, Siemens, Microsoft, plus Jet Propulsion Laboratories, CalTech and NASA. He attended St. Austin's grade school, graduated from Benilde High School and Notre Dame University, then earned two Masters Degrees at Cal State Northridge, and a PhD at Virginia Tech. A man of diverse talents, he excelled as an athlete, drummer, black belt in karate, airplane pilot, and astronomy expert. He read extensively about space exploration and science fiction, highlighted by meetings with sci-fi author Sir Arthur C. Clarke. Jim discovered favorite places all around the world: Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal; and enjoyed discussions with the Dalai Lama. Jim infused all of life's experiences with dry wit, a unique sense of humor and endless movie quotes. Jim deeply loved his close-knit family. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor's choice.
