James O. Giebenhain

Jim Giebenhain passed away at the age of 86 in Maple Grove, Minnesota. However, he lived most of his life in Robbinsdale, and upon graduation (RHS ’54) went to work for Robbinsdale School District until he retired. Jim was a talented carpenter for the district and built homes alongside his grandfather and father in the metro area. His woodworking skills also extended to constructing furniture and wood bowls, which are the creative treasures of his legacy.

Outside of woodworking, Jim enjoyed fishing in Canada and spending time at the family cabin. After retiring, he spent many winters in Arizona as a “snowbird”, making memories with friends, working in the woodshop, playing pickleball, and exploring with the hiking club. Besides Arizona, Jim traveled with his wife, Gerry, to just about every state in the US.

Jim’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren loved to be in his presence, and he enjoyed watching the little ones play around him! He was a quiet, creative, and humble man who was respected by those who knew him. Jim will be greatly missed by his many friends, and especially by his family.

Jim is survived by his wife, Gerry; children, Michael (Sharon) Giebenhain, Mary (Kevin) Fitzgerald, and Joanie (Barry) Kiminski; grandchildren, Meghan (Kyle) Bonde, Colin (Alexis) Fitzgerald, John (Nicole) Giebenhain, Kayla (Billy) Olson, and Molly (Jeremy) Swenson; great-grandchildren, Sierra and Grant Bonde, Owen and Olivia Swenson, and Laine Giebenhain.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Amy and Orville Giebenhain, and his sister, Janet Davis.
