James R. Canter “Jim”
of Wayzata passed away peacefully after a brief illness a day after turning 72. Jim is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Sharon (Kalbfleisch) Canter; daughters, Laurie (John) Musielak and Jennifer (Scott) Vogland; grandchildren, Matthew and Samantha Musielak; and brother, John (Jean) Canter. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Zarta (Maysian) Canter.
Jim was born in Racine, WI and graduated from Horlick High School in 1964. He completed a degree in History at UW-Milwaukee in 1968 and served in the Army Reserves following graduation. He completed a 42 year career at Standard Oil/Amoco/BP in 2010. When retired, Jim found time for many hours of fishing, golfing and traveling with family. He was an active volunteer with the Armed Forces Service Center and Travelers Assistance at the airport. Jim was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many.
Visitation will be at Gearty-Delmore Plymouth Chapel, 15800 37 th Ave. N. from 9:30 -11:00 AM Wednesday with a celebration of Jim’s life beginning at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to N.C. Little Hospice in Edina, where he was cared for lovingly in his final days.
