Jacqueline Mae Kuhl (Marone) June 14,1933 - September 24, 2023
Jackie was born to Dutch & Clara Marone as the second of six children in Woonsocket, SD. She was raised by loving parents at the family farm southeast of Huron, SD. As a child she rode her horse, Blacky, daily to & from the one-room school house a mile and a half away—through rain, sleet, snow & sunshine. As Jackie grew she discovered her love of cleaning, cooking, & caregiving to her younger siblings, especially her special needs brothers, Russell and George. She preferred indoor chores with her mom leaving her siblings to work outside with their dad in the fields & barn with the cows, chickens, pigs and crops.
She and her older sister Betty lived in town throughout high school with their grandfather, Sgt Harry Marone. Post high school she attended Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD earning her Registered Nurses licensure in 1954. During her college days she met her husband, Ray, while dating his good friend, Mike. Ray was a handsome lad & an only child---characteristics she found very appealing!
Ray and Jackie married after a short courtship on December 29, 1954 and moved to Waco, Tx while Ray was training for RO at the Air National Guard. She began her nursing career at the base hospital as an RN. Throughout their 69 years of marriage Jackie packed up their household belongings and 5 children and moved 15 times to 10 cities in 6 states as she & Ray grew in their careers. Jackie offered her many talents in nursing as a floor charge nurse, nursing home administrator, clinical, camp and private care nurse. She was most proud of creating, organizing & designing a full therapy program for her traumatic brain injury patient, Scott Fields, for 27 years. She loved and cared for him setting up schedules for equine therapy, swim therapy, music therapy, work program and camps. She finally retired at age 80. She continued to find great pleasure on her shopping adventures finding deals and great fashion, while maintaining a spotless home, being the queen of laundry, spending time with family and playing Mahjong with her fun friends. She stayed fit throughout her life walking her beloved dogs and setting a great example to her children and grandchildren earning the title "Buff Grandma!"
She & Ray have left a legacy in their love of family with their 5 children, their 14 grandchildren—Kristina DeLion, Liz Manning, Jennifer (Pat) Kellin, Mike Wehling, Kim (Gregory) Doriott, Kyle Finn, Aaron (Jessica) Scherr, Tashia (Johnny) Gibbs, Kevin (Tessa) Wilson Jr., Stefan (Natalie) Kuhl, Amanda Kuhl, Billy (Lauren) Magrane, Chayse (Kelsey) Magrane, & Sosi Van Wyk; 11 Great-grandchildren—Eva, David, Danny, Robbie, Claira, Max, Sam, Saidie, Henry, AJ, and Josephine.
She is survived by her husband Ray, children Teresa R Kuhl (Sanibel, FL), Lorri & Craig Finn (Maple Grove, MN), Greg & Staci Kuhl (New Hope, MN), Julie & David Van Wyk (Maple Grove, MN). Her daughter Sandra K Wilson (Estero, FL) died in 2016. She is also survived by her sister and brother, Marilyn Tounsley and Ronald Marone. She was preceded in death by brothers George and Russell Marone, sister & brother-in-laws Betty & Don Olson, Jack Tounsley, and nephew Ricky Marone.
She leaves behind many greatly loved nieces and nephews, friends and family. She had great appreciation for her loving aides, Anna F, Judi G, and Nicole K, as well as the many loving staff at Arbor Lakes Senior Living Memory Care in Maple Grove.
