John M. “Jack” Suttor
age 79, passed away at home unexpectedly on July 30th, 2017.
Jack was born on June 17th, 1938 to Albert and Eleanor Suttor in Castlewood, SD. He attended Castlewood High School and graduated in 1956. He enlisted in the US Marine Corp where he served until 1960 upon being honorably discharged.
Jack enrolled at South Dakota State University in 1960, earning an Electrical Engineering degree in 1964. He began his engineering career with Northern States Power in 1964 where he would stay for almost thirty years, retiring in 1993.
In retirement Jack enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed traveling the country in his Jeep and attending Jeep Jamborees. He was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast.
Jack donated significant time to charitable endeavors including the Wayzata School District, MN DNR, the annual Marine’s Toys for Tot’s collection, and many more. He was a member of the NRA, American Motorcycle Association, the Delano Gun & Sportsman Club and a charter member of the Camp Sunrise Youthcare.
Above all else, Jack loved spending time with his family including spoiling his five grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his children Jeff Suttor of Ukiah, CA; Jill (Tom) Skoog of Powell, OH; Jodi (Rob) Rosenthal of Lone Tree, CO; Jay Suttor of Plymouth, MN; and his significant other, Carolyn McManus Suttor of Plymouth, MN. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lauren, Grace & Bella Skoog of Powell, OH; and Ben & Emma Rosenthal of Lone Tree, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Eleanor Suttor.
A military burial will be held on Friday, November 24th at 2:00 pm at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, assembly area #5, 7601, 34th Ave., Minneapolis. A celebration of life will be held immediately after the service at the Richfield American Legion, Post 435, 6501 Portland Ave. S., Minneapolis.
