Isabelle M. McGrath

Isabelle Mary (Gavin) McGrath, 86, a loved and cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt entered eternal rest on Friday, October 27, 2023. Isabelle will be dearly missed by all who had the good fortune to know her, enjoy her sweet disposition, and share in her delightful approach to life.

Isabelle (“Liz”, to many), born March 29, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts, was the eldest child of Robert M. Gavin and Helen R. (Finnegan) Gavin. Isabelle grew up in Edina, attended grade school at Christ the King and high school at St. Margaret's Academy, before venturing off to Boston to attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy where she met and studied with her future husband, W. Robert McGrath (preceding her in death). Isabelle was brilliant; she embraced a love of learning and being a student was a joy she spoke of with great enthusiasm and utmost respect. Isabelle resided in Boston, Cincinnati, Seattle, New York, and Connecticut over the years but Minnesota was always her home and where she happily returned.

Isabelle is survived by her three children, Michael McGrath, Kathleen Miles, and Rosemary Gravett (Harry), along with six grandchildren, Autumn, Paul (Samantha), Amy, Kristen, Kelly, and Ryan (Brooklyn), and two great-grandchildren, Aurora and Rowan. She is survived by her siblings Patricia Bailey Campion, Robert M. Gavin (Charlotte), William A. Gavin (Deanna), Helen R. Gavin, Deborah Spanier (Tom), and sisters-in-law Barbara (Caspers) Gavin and Bonnie (Kouba) Gavin, as well as many dear nieces, nephews and cousins. Isabelle is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edward Gavin, her nephew John Edward Bailey, II, and her brothers-in-law John "Jack" Edward Bailey, and Martin "Marty" Campion.
