Helen Kathryn (Korhonen) Bjorlin, age 87, of Plymouth, MN, died Oct. 9, 2021, of lymphoma.
Preceded in death by husband, Roger; parents, Elizabeth (Davidson) and Oscar Korhonen; sister, Elaine Brown and brother, Neil Korhonen.
Survived by children, Paul (Liz) Bjorlin, Eric (Rose) Bjorlin and Ann (Alberto Recio) Bjorlin; grandchildren, Matt, Sara and Emily Bjorlin; Tom, Andrew and Ben Bjorlin; and Oscar Recio- Bjorlin; sister-in-law, Ann Korhonen; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A native Finnish speaker who grew up on a farm in French Lake, Minnesota, Helen was valedictorian of her 1950 class at Annandale High School, received a partial scholarship to Macalester College 1950-51 and later transferred to the University of Minnesota, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1955.
As a registered nurse, she started out in the psychiatric unit at University Hospital, a job she loved. After raising a family, she was briefly a school nurse for District 279 and then returned to the University of Minnesota to work at the Cancer Detection Center.
In her retirement, Helen started most days at the YMCA swimming pool before sunrise. She was a voracious reader, careful listener, avid theatergoer, and a fan of jazz and classical music.
Service 1:00 PM Thursday, October 28, at Plymouth Presbyterian Church, 3755 Dunkirk Lane N., Plymouth. Private interment at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery-Little Falls. Visitation 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 27, at Gearty-Delmore Plymouth Chapel, 15800 37th Ave. N., Plymouth and 1 hour before service at the church.
