Djerf, Harvey E., age 96 of Plymouth, passed away Sept. 1, exchanging the old rugged cross for a crown. It would have been his wife Pat’s 93 rd birthday. Along with Pat, who died March 7, he was preceded in death by son Wayne and grandson Adam. Survived by children: Steve (Alva), Brian (Nancy), Laurie (Lloyd) Geving, Mary (Kent) Lee and Warren (Karen Waters); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Harvey was proud of his Swedish heritage and U.S. Army service in WWII, including the Battle of the Bulge. He taught biology in Golden Valley district 1963-1979 and was summer naturalist at Gooseberry Falls State Park from 1962-1991. In these roles, Harvey shared his love and knowledge of nature with thousands of students, campers and tourists.
His faith and love for people showed through many selfless actions and genuine interest in others, especially learning their names. He kept busy in retirement, including volunteering at Courage Center in Golden Valley. He loved playing bridge, swimming, walking and other outdoor activities. Simple pleasures like backyard wiener roasts were cherished.
Thanks to staff at Good Samaritan Ambassador in New Hope for compassionate care for both Pat and Harvey.
