Gum Carol Woo passed away on August 13, 2020 in Plymouth, MN after a tough and courageous 2 ½ year battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Toishan, China on July 22, 1938, Carol moved to the United States in 1969 and settled in Plymouth, MN, where she raised her family and resided for 51 years.
Carol was a kind, generous, and caring woman who found joy in simple things. She was a loving wife to her husband Mayne and a doting mother to her children Loren and Marlene. She showered her family with love and created a happy and wonderful life for her family in her adopted homeland. She loved to cook, especially for a large group of family and friends. She always made sure that everyone was well-fed. Her bao and doong (zongzi) were legendary. She was known for hosting regular mahjongg parties with her friends that were filled with laughter, many of which lasted well into the night. She touched the lives of people wherever she went and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Carol was fiercely proud of the family she created. She is survived by her devoted son Loren and daughter-in-law Karen, adoring daughter Marlene, two beautiful and beloved grand-daughters Madeline and Elaine, two sisters and a brother, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends. She was reunited and now rests in peace with husband Mayne, her parents Sing Mon Ma and Chong Ai Wong, and brothers Kennedy, Richard, and Sze Ngel Ma.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA): https://secure.qgiv.com/event/mocatributes/account/1008633 .
A visitation will be at the Gearty-Delmore Funeral Home in Plymouth on Sat, August 22nd from 11 am - 2 pm. A private interment will follow at Lakewood Cemetery.
Attendees are required to wear masks while at the chapel.
