Gregory Francis Marion

Gregory Francis Marion, 75, of Plymouth, MN, passed away peacefully to his eternal home on Friday, May 26, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Greg (fondly known as “Bear”) was born on October 22, 1947 to Albert and Virginia Marion in San Francisco. After Greg graduated from St. Francis High School in Mountain View, he went on to San Jose State College. Greg enjoyed a 30-year career with AT&T, which took him from California to Minnesota and he retired in 1998.

Greg spent a lot of time making improvements to his house and garden, and he also enjoyed cooking, playing golf, and traveling with his wife, Jayne. Greg was a talented woodworker, often making custom gifts for friends and family, which brought him great joy. He was fiercely loyal and was a wonderful human and friend to many. Greg’s story is one of endurance, navigating life’s ups and downs with fortitude and charisma. He humbly shared his wisdom with others, spending the last decade of his life helping others at The Retreat, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Wayzata. Greg’s family and his dog meant the world to him, and he will be forever remembered as a husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, father in law, brother in law, nephew and friend.

In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Ann Marion. Greg is survived and missed by his wife, Jayne (nee Lutz) Marion, of 29 years; his son, Tyler (Laura) Marion of Seattle, WA; his three grandchildren Leopold Thomas, Philip James, and Louis Albert; his sister Diane (Stephen) Houghton of Pleasant Hill, CA; his uncle Dick (Vera) Lane of San Jose, CA; nieces and nephews; and his boxer pup, Tucker.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Greg’s life at Wayzata Community Church at 125 Wayzata Boulevard E., Wayzata, MN on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial gift in Greg’s name be donated to The Retreat at 1221 Wayzata Blvd E., Wayzata, MN or Wayzata Community Church 125 Wayzata Boulevard East, Wayzata, MN 55391.
