Gordy Cosgrove, 86, joined hands with his beloved Barbara, Nov 16, after a 13-year absence. “Come see me, but not too soon,” she counseled him. “You have more to do here.” First mission was to be both grandma and grandpa to Charlie (Liz and Luella) Cosgrove; Tony and Alan Amundsen; Carolyn Cosgrove Payne (Amy Witt); and Brian Cosgrove Payne. He also managed to be there for over 40 nieces and nephews, as well as his children: Steve (Kathy) Cosgrove; Mary Cosgrove (Scott Payne); Bill Cosgrove (Kay Elliott); John Cosgrove; Paul Cosgrove (Penelope); Judy (Scott) Amundsen; Tom Cosgrove; and his brother, Don (Alda) Cosgrove. His arms were big enough to hold all of us, whether that meant flying to a nephew’s wedding in Las Vegas; traveling to Boston for his granddaughter’s graduation; driving grandkids to the cabin; visiting loved ones in the hospital; or firing up the Weber kettle for a Father’s Day prime rib. Life was precious to Gordy, especially after losing his son, Kevin. Strokes started to chip away at his independence in 2010, disabling him two years ago. Through it all, we could still see the same old Gordy, and so could his caregivers at Catholic Eldercare, who treated all of us like family.
