Gloria E. Hagen died on July 25 at age 95 at St Therese Home, New Hope. Preceded in death by husband, Justin; parents; sister, Donna; and brothers, Carl and Bob.
Gloria (Mattson) graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1940 and went on to US Naval training to become a secretary in the Waves during WW II, being stationed in Washington D.C. She returned to Duluth and married Justin Hagen in 1949.
She lived in Duluth most of her life and belonged to many clubs and organizations. She had been a model in Miss Eugene’s Charm School and she wrote, directed and performed in mini-revues for St Mary’s Hospital auxiliary performing group, The Mary Belles.
Gloria was a most creative person as was seen in her artwork, cooking, writing, and conversation. She had a wonderful (sometimes twisted) sense of humor up until the last few days.
Survived by daughter, Linda (Stephen) Eckman; son, Johnny Hagen (Mariana Giovino); three grandchildren, Anders Eckman (Aaron Williamson), Elizabeth Eckman (Dan Winckelmann), Shannon Eckman (Steven Carlson); niece, Kathy Bloomenson; various other nephews and nieces, and special caregiver, Sharon Nelson.
The family wants to thank the staff on I-West at St. Therese of New Hope for the love and care they provided Gloria. Donations may be made to St. Therese Foundation or Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.
