Glenna Arline Gullickson (Swore)
Age 85, passed away on August 5, 2016. She was born in Alexandria, MN, on April 21, 1931, to Arline (Moore) Swore & Rudolph L. Swore. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years, Dr. Glenn Gullickson, Jr, her sister in law, Margaret Gullickson, and her brother in law, William D. Gullickson. Glenna is survived by her children Mary Kloos (Tom), Glenn “Tad” Gullickson III (Julie); grandchildren John & Justin Kloos, Peter, Stefan, Nathaniel, & Grace Gullickson; her sister in law Barbara Jean Gullickson, and nephews William Jr., Michael, James, Steven Gullickson and their families.
Glenna graduated from Alexandria High School in ‘49 and went on to graduate from Carleton College in 1953. While studying for a Masters in History at the University of MN, she met (on a blind date!) a U of M Doctor & Professor of Physical Medicine, Dr. Glenn Gullickson, Jr. Glenna & Glenn were married in Alexandria on May 18, 1957, then settled in Hopkins, MN, where they raised their two children, Mary & Tad. In 1993, they moved to Bloomington, MN, and spent their winters in Sun City, AZ. Since 2010, Glenna & Glenn lived their remaining years at Augustana Regent Retirement Home in Burnsville, MN.
Glenna was visually creative and had a flair for hosting friends & family in a style that was unique and memorable to all. She loved many types of artwork and enjoyed learning & sharing the historical “stories” behind them. As an active member of her community, Glenna sought opportunities to serve and lead many groups, a few examples include the P.E.O. Sisterhood (CT Chapter), Colonial Church of Edina, the Junior League of Minneapolis, her U of MN sorority Kappa Alpha Theta, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. But, above all else, Glenna’s life and legacy was centered by her love & unconditional devotion to her family…caring for her husband, raising her children, and supporting her grandchildren.
Memorials preferred to (one of Glenna’s favored charities): Greater Twin Cities United Way, P.O. Box 2949, Minneapolis, MN 55402-0949 ( www.gtcuw.org/give/memorials_tributes ). A memorial service for family and friends will be held at The Memorial Chapel at Lakewood, Minneapolis, MN.
