Born in Minneapolis on June 2, 1921 of Lorence and Mary (Lampertz) Swaggert. A 1934 graduate of St. Bridget’s School and 1938 of St. Anthony High School, she was an active member of St. Bridget’s Parish for 80+ years.
Gert was involved in the sport of bowling for over 70 years. She was an inductee in the Minneapolis City, Minnesota State and National Bowling Hall of Fame. She held the office of president and secretary of the Minneapolis and Minnesota Women's Bowling Association and was a founder of youth bowling programs in Minneapolis. Gert bowled in 54 national bowling tournaments. For 50 years she coordinated trips to WIBC national tournaments. The trips were among those organized in affiliation with 4 Seasons Vacations. Gert was known as a superior trip organizer and could fill a bus or plane on a moment’s notice.
Survived by children, Rick (Kathy), Susan (Ralph) Drontle and Bob (Cindy); grandchildren, Rick T. (Karen), Michael, Katy James, Kristine (Joseph) Sullivan, Daniel, Jeffrey and Bridget; great-grandchildren, Megan, Brenna, Nicholas, Sydney, Benjamin, Abigail, Burke and Jack; 10 step-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by husband of 67 years, Richard “Dick” Finke; brother, Lorence Swaggert; sisters, Henrietta Saxton and Marian Neeley.
