Gary Lee Behl

Gary Lee Behl, 71, of Plymouth, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020.

Gary was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa “Pop”, son, brother, uncle and friend and was loved by all.

Gary grew up in Robbinsdale playing endless hours of basketball, was coached in Little League by his dad at Manor Park, dared to sled down “Big Tanker” in the cold Minnesota winters and lettered in wrestling.  As one of four boys, Gary and his brothers were protective of their only sister when she was small, until she grew up to run the show! Gary faithfully served his country by enlisting in the United States Army at the age of 18. He was stationed in Germany before re-enlisting to serve in Vietnam.  After dating his beloved Terri, they married on July 10, 1970. Together, Gary and Terri raised their boys, Colin and Casey, to be loving, devoted men and “Pop” was tickled when he got to become a grandpa. Gary was a Master Barber for over 30 years and owned Sheer Advantage Hair Salon before turning in his scissors for his custodian’s broom in Wayzata.  Dearly loved by students, employees, co-workers, friends, and family alike, Gary was always the first to pitch in and lend a hand wherever help was needed. He was an intentional caregiver, servant, jokester, adventurer, and life-long learner. Selfless to the end, Gary chose to be an organ donor. He loved camping, fishing, canoeing, bowling, reading, and woodcarving.  He was widely known for his creative, carved walking sticks, making one for anyone who asked. Gary truly treasured family and friends and left us with this John Prine quote, “When I get to Heaven I’m going to shake God’s hand, thank Him for more blessings than one man can stand.”

He is survived by wife, Terri (Ennen); sons, Colin Behl (Melissa Bird) and Casey (Sarah) Behl; grandchildren, Aiden and Vanessa Behl; siblings, Steve Behl (Sandra Stone), Ron (Judy) Behl, Yvonne “Punky” Abraham and Howard (Debbie) Behl; many nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
