Gary J Abel

Abel, Gary passed away on February 19th, 2022 at the age of 61 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy with a memorial at Coremark Metals, the family business where he worked faithfully since it opened in 1992. Gary was an exceptionally skilled builder, mechanic, and electrician; his pride was in his work and in teaching others his tricks of the trade. He had a mind full of trivial knowledge, too. It was not uncommon for Gary to share with you his latest "fun fact", for example how pop cans are made or the historical context of "gesturing" with your middle finger. Anyone who knew him will tell you he was an extremely passionate person with a big heart and a heavy hand with the pepper shaker. Gary wished not to have a public funeral and asked to be buried in his work shirt, wearing what made him feel most like himself. These wishes will be honored by his family. Gary is survived by his wife, Cicely Dick, his parents, Dick and Sue Abel, siblings Diane (John) Dormanen and Brian Abel, 6 nieces Melissa (Eric) Sheveland, Jane (Joe) Rembowicz, Anne (Josh) Brink, Laura, Grace and Rose Dormanen and two great nephews, Jonathan and Harrison Sheveland, who will grow up hearing stories of Uncle Gary's distinctive sense of humor and wit.
