Ferdinand Alsonso Samuels

Ferdinand Alonso Samuels age 94, passed away on March 26, 2018. Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Emma Dorothy Samuels. Survived by his sons Ronald (Gayla) Samuels and David (Heidi) Samuels, and grandchildren, Gayla (Anthony) Hays and Justin and Lauren Samuels.

Born in New York City on July 25, 1923. Ferdinand grew up in Harlem, New York and met his wife, Emma at the Shreveport, Louisiana USO while he was in the Army. After completing his service, Emma followed him back to New York, and they eloped in Wilmington, Delaware in 1946. Ferdinand earned a degree in Engineering from New York University. He was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Epsilon Chapter.  Eventually moving to Minneapolis to work with Control Data Corporation, he earned his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics in 1969 from the University of Minnesota. Ferdinand loved traveling anywhere Emma desired and found traveling with friends on cruise ships especially fun as he approached retirement years. Ferdinand spent his later years at the Memory Care Unit at Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis. He will be missed by his extended family of care givers at the Vets home. Ferdinand’s greatest joy was getting visits from family members as he was profoundly proud of all of them. Always smiling and happy to see others with a smile, Ferdinand’s friendly wisdom will be deeply missed.
