Ewan Donald James Chowen,
age 98 of Minnetonka, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2016.
Ewan was born on March 2, 1918, the son of Lew and Kate Chowen. He grew up in North Minneapolis, loving to fish, hunt and spend summers with family in the country.
Ewan served for four years in the Army’s Persian Gulf Command overseas in Tehran, Iran during WWII. He met the love of his life, Dorie, at the Fort Snelling VA while she was caring for him. They married in 1948 and continued their loving relationship for the next 57 years until God took Dorie in 2005. Ewan attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and received a degree in fine arts.
Ewan and Dorie raised their family in rural Minnetonka, which included raising chickens, planting large gardens and providing plenty of venison for the table. He worked for the Soo Line as a Yard Clerk and retired at the age of sixty, but the passion in his life was for his family, artwork and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Dorie and siblings Joseph Chowen, Louise Anderson, Kathryn Freeman, and Roseann Johnson.
He is survived by his five children; Dee Dee Chowen, Ewan “Hugh” (Elsie) Chowen, Maryann Chowen (Tom Nielsen), Colleen (David) Chowen-Robinson, and Patrick Chowen (Katherine Lemke-Chowen).
