Everett Joseph Melvin was born August 10, 1928, on family farm in Plainview to Harry and Grace Melvin. Death was May 2, 2019. Ev earned a BS Degree in business and philosophy at St. Mary's and later added additional graduate degrees in social studies and Latin from a variety of colleges. After his student teaching at St. George's School in Evanston, Ill., Ev enlisted in the Air Force. At Lockland Air Force he took a battery of nine tests. From Hamilton Air Force Base, he was sent to Chausmunte Air Force Base in Illinois where he went to weather school, learning to collect data on weather conditions and inform pilots of flying conditions. Komaki Air Force Base in Japan was his next assignment and later was was assigned to the Wing Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, living across the street from the Imperial Palace Grounds. Flying to Honolulu and Johnston Island for weather inspections, he agreed to help the military on Johnston Island, a small one-mile long island in the Pacific where he remained for 10 months. He was honorably discharged from his four years in the Air Force in 1954.


Ev's first teaching job was in Canton, Mn, where he taught for two years prior to moving to St. Louis Park where he continued teaching for 34 years. He taught across the hall from Margaret Femrite, the new teacher, and six years later, in 1969, they were married. Purchasing a home in Edina where Margaret continued her teaching, they had three children, Patrick, Kara, and Shawna. At this time there are six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Nephew/Godson, Msgr Thomas Melvin is officiating at Everett's funeral at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Edina, MN. on May 7 at 11:00 with lunch following. Everett will be burieed at St. Thomas of the Pines Church Cemetery located at Madden's Resort in Brainerd at 3:45 in the afternoon, five miles down the road from the Melvin's lake home they built 42 years ago.

Everett was an adventurous and talented individual with a wide variety of interests. He spent a summer working on a ranch in Montana, a summer working at Glacier Park, a summer in the oil fields of CA where his brother Earl was located and a summer touring Europe with a friend. He was also an avid downhill skier, continuing to ski in multiple ski resorts to the age of 88. He also enjoyed and excelled in golf, playing 40 18-hole rounds at age 87. Ev showed his talents in painting, carving, drawing and wood working. During their retirement years, Everett and Margaret traveled to numerous foreign countries in Europe, Asia and Africa to enjoy new experiences in a variety of cultures.

Ev was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Earl Melvin and Duane Melvin. He is survived by his brother Pat Melvin of Plainview who was born on Ev's fifth birthday.
