Eunice Marie Pitmon, Age 94, of the Mpls area, born July 14, 1931 in Audubon Township, MN, the only child of Matilda and Clayton Pitmon, passed away June 22, 2016.
Eunice graduated in 1943 from MacPhail School of Music with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. She continued her education at MacPhail by earning a Master’s Degree in Music Education and Violin in 1946. She enjoyed her work as band and orchestra teacher/director in elementary and through high school. Eunice taught in St Louis Park, Fairmont, St Cloud, Hitterdal and Moorhead. Along with her work in the schools she shared ownership of the Nolan-Pitmon music store in Detroit Lakes. After 27 years at South Jr High in Moorhead she retired in 1983.
Eunice was one of the founders of the Fargo Moorhead Area Youth Symphony and played violin for a number of years in the Fargo Moorhead Symphony. Her legacy continues through her contribution to music education and through scholarships she has initiated. She enjoyed the energetic young musicians and said “I would do it all over again if I could”.
Eunice was an avid TWINS fan and beware if you doubted them at all. She liked wearing the team logo and attended a game last year. Special thanks to the entire Colonial Acres staff who cared for her the last years of her life.
Eunice is preceded in death by both parents and is survived by several cousins and their families.
Memorials preferred to the Fargo Moorhead Area Youth Symphony or to the donor's choice.
