Dottie was born to the late Carl and Anna Doberneck, on July 13, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. Her family later moved to Gifford, Illinois. Dottie graduated from Rantoul Township High School where she met and later married her husband of 57 years, Robert Joseph Kelly on June 21, 1958. Dottie attended St. Frances Hospital School of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois, and spent many years working as an RN at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Dottie’s Catholic faith and her family were the center of her life.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan, and enjoyed seeing them grow into wonderful adults and delighted is seeing some of them become parents themselves. Her eight great-grandchildren brought so much joy to her life.
She was an active member of St. Therese Parish of Deephaven, MN. Dottie and her husband, Bob, enjoyed traveling to many beautiful places around the world. She also had a gift for creating beauty and community by making delicious family dinners every Sunday, and by making her home lovely and inviting to all her friends and neighbors. Dottie’s generosity, faithfulness, nurturing heart and beautiful, loving spirit was clear to all who met her.
She is preceded in death by her son, Robbie; and her beloved brother, Walter Doberneck.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, the love of her life; sister, Elsie Osterbur (Erwin) of Rantoul, Illinois; children, Kim (Joel) Christianson of Corcoran, Lisa Kelly (Marc Osborn) of Santa Barbara, Lori (Kevin) O’Connor of Plymouth, Edward (Amy) Kelly of St. Paul, and Kim Berg (Patty Feulner); 12 grandchildren, Joshua (Jessica Oaks), Jared (Stephanie), Jeremy (Ashley), Reycel (Bruce Thao), Ivelyn, and Reniel Christianson, Alison, and Daniel Mastain, Ryan (Abbey), and Kelly O’Connor, Jack, and Kate Kelly; 8 great-grandchildren, Ethan Johnson and Jack Oaks (Joshua); Gabriel, Benjamin, and Joseph Christianson (Jared); Gavin, Olivia, and Amelia Christianson (Jeremy).
Interment Resurrection Cemetery in Shorewood.
