Eloise Joan Pirolo, 87, died January 14, 2019, from Alzheimer’s disease, at home in Maple Grove, MN.
Joan was born July 15, 1931, in Stambaugh, MI. She was married for 64 years to her high school sweetheart, Dino Pirolo, of Caspian, MI. It was love at first sight for 14-year-old Joan, who spotted Dino from afar and told her friends “that’s the boy I’m going to marry”.
Joan completed her Registered Nursing education at Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago in 1953, and she and Dino were married later that year. During the early years of their marriage, Joan worked at Stambaugh Hospital and as a public health nurse. Over the course of their marriage, Dino’s positions with Inland Steel led the couple to assignments in Ishpeming, MI; Iron River, MI; Crosby, MN; Manistique, MI; Virginia, MN; and East Chicago, IN.
Joan was devoted to her family and faith. She enjoyed reading, homemaking activities, playing the piano and traveling. For more than 30 years, Joan was an active member of PEO, an international philanthropic organization supporting the education and advancement of women. In 1993, Joan and Dino retired to Prescott, AZ, where they made many new friends. They returned to MN in 2015 to be closer to family.
Survived by children, Donald (Elizabeth) Pirolo, Linda (John) Ethier, Susan (Frank Herrera) Pirolo; grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda), Isaac, and Andrew Pirolo, and Michael (Heather) and Sarah Ethier; great-grandchildren, Adam Pirolo, and Benjamin and Eloise Ethier. Preceded in death by loving husband, Dino Enrico Pirolo; parents, Elmer and Eloise (Hartley) Anderson; brother, David Anderson.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, January 19, in the Silvercreek chapel, 8200 Main St., Maple Grove, with visitation beginning at 10:30 and reception following. Memorials to donor’s choice of charity are preferred in lieu of flowers. Special thanks to our Amada caregivers and Allina Hospice care team.
