Interment at Lakewood Cemetery
Elmer Kuhlman 94, of Crosslake passed away on August 4, 2020. Elmer was born in Platte Center, Nebraska to William and Louise Kuhlman. After moving to Minnesota and serving in the US Navy, Elmer went on to accomplish many great milestones in the Engineering field, beginning with his graduation from the University of Minnesota in 1951 earning a BBA in Industrial Administration. Shortly after graduation and marrying his wife, Ruth Ann, Elmer began sharing his excellence with various companies as a packaging and material handling engineer for 35 years at Honeywell and then most recently at ELKonsulting. Elmer was a member of many organizations, including the Institute of Packaging Professionals, the American Wood Packaging Association, International Standards Organization, and various others. He also served as the Chairman of the International Packaging Association for many years. Prestigious in his work, he earned many awards, including various from the National Institute of Packaging, Handling & Logistics Engineers, the Bronze Medallion from the American Defense Preparedness Association, the “Distinguished Colleague Award” by Aerospace Industries Association a “ Pi Alpha Kappa Honorary Member” by Minnesota Chapter of IoPP, and was named to the Military Packaging Hall of Fame, just to list a few.
He was preceded in death by wife, Ruth Ann; son, Philip; siblings, Donald and Lois (LeRoy) Lorenzen; and brother-in-law Elmer Bartels.
He will be greatly missed by his sons, Richard, Bob (Trudy), Dan (Susan); grandchildren, Tamara, Ashley, Nathan and Melissa; sister, Eunice Bartels; and sister-in-law, Carol Kuhlman.
Services will be held Saturday, August 22 at 11AM at Cross View Lutheran Church, 6645 McCauley Trail W, Edina. Visitation 1 hour prior. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery. We will be following CDC and MN Health Department guidelines regarding masks and social distancing. Memorials are requested to be named to the Philip Kuhlman Memorial Scholarship Endowment at Concordia University, Nebraska.
